Level 1 · Web Introduction

Build your first websites and explore the main parts of web work.

This six-week level introduces the tools and decisions involved in making a website. You will build small products while you find out which parts of web work interest you.

HTML and CSS

Structure web pages with HTML and control their appearance with CSS.

Content and graphics

Build a simple site in a content management system (CMS). Prepare images and simple graphics for the web.

Design across devices

Apply basic design principles and make choices that work on different screen sizes and platforms.

Quality and communication

Track project versions with Git and GitHub. Test, validate, document, and present your work, and use basic search engine optimization (SEO).

You will work on small coded websites, a simple CMS site, web-ready graphics, and ways to test and present a digital product. Each task will state its required result and any optional extension work.

You will practice following a clear brief, recording useful project checkpoints, finding information, meeting a deadline, and explaining your decisions. You will also identify your current strengths and the areas you want to develop.

Begin with Set up VS Code and your school workspace. Continue to Practice: Open a project workspace when the lesson self-check passes.
